Kavisha Mazzella now coming to RhythmSong.
Sadly Moira Smiley has had to withdraw as a tutor because some pieces of the puzzle just didn't fall in the right way. Certainly it would have been wonderful to have her but we're also very excited to have Kavisha on board and we're really appreciative of her willingness to step in at late notice. She'll be teaching an amazing piece that she composed under commission from the Victorian Government in 2004. It's a three part choral piece based on events of the Eureka Stockade and is partly in Italian and partly in English. As well as being a wonderful songwriter and musician Kavisha is experienced in running vocal workshops and will be a very welcome addition to the Rhythmsong programme.

The Makarita Project

The Makarita Project
Makarita Tusola and Leon Ranuve are a father and daughter team from Taveuni Isalnd in Fiji. They play a mixture of songs in Fijian and English language with ukelele and guitar underpinning the vocals. They're being brought to WA by Peter Keelan who discovered their magic while in Fiji. They'll be performing at the Denmark Festival of Voice but before that they are coming and sharing their music with us at RhythmSong.

Thanks to those who came along to the Laceys in East Fremantle for a beautiful house concert on 29th March. It was a fundraiser for Rhythmsong youth scholarships and was a beautiful night with some outstanding youth performances from Laura Strobech and also from Mac Cairns and Angus McLean in the first half and wonderfully inspiring accordion playing from Cathie Travers after the break. Along with raffle tickets sold we made enought to cover a couple of scholarships which was a great outcome.

Youth Scholarships
We have a great youth scholarship scheme – 6 full scholarships for people aged between 16 and 25 and generous concessions for young people 21 and under.

One of the two videos on this site created by Ryan Morrison and Kate Rowe at the 2012 event shows the young people in action.

These videos give an excellent idea of what Rhythmsong is about. There is also archive material from earlier events on this site where you can check out what’s been offered in the past few years.

Come along and be inspired!

What is Rhythmsong?

RhythmSong is a 4 day residential programme where people from all parts of the community and of different ages and musical backgrounds come together and share their love of singing and music.

It is structured around workshops, concerts and recreational opportunities. We aim to provide a friendly and supportive environment for people to explore their interest in music whoever they are and participants range from beginners to experienced musicians, singers and songwriters.

We’ve had fantastic tutors in the past including Kristina Olsen, Rachel Hore, Stephen Taberner, Mal Webb, Parissa Bouas, Greg Sheehan, Jojo Smith, Kerrianne Cox, Carl Pannuzzo, Penny Larkins, Tania Bosak, Diana Clark, Cathie Travers, Steve Richter, Ryan Morrison, Kate Rowe, Valanga and Andrea Khoza... and many other wonderful teachers and guest artists.

We provide a variety of workshops depending on the tutor’s skills and interests and our needs but there is always group singing and a focus on rhythm and percussion. Songwriting has featured over the last few years and there has been a popular youth programme.

In the past we’ve also offered workshops in guitar, marimba, performance, African dance, Taketina rhythm process, samba drumming, body percussion, performance technique and in many other areas... even early morning yoga.
